Default Roles

A brief overview of the default role setup with any new Photon implementation

Photon uses a role-based permission system, allowing users to belong to multiple roles. Administrators can add or remove roles to suit their hospital's needs. If a hospital uses an internal permissions system like Okta or Active Directory, Photon roles can be matched via Group ID.

Each new installation comes with three prepopulated roles:

Administrators

Access to administrative functions such as User Management, Roles and Permissions, Metrics and Reports, Channels, Networking, and Settings.

General Users

Healthcare providers who need access to patient data and communications. This includes employees or contractors like surgeons, specialists, and nurses, with full access to the patient registry.

Outside Providers

Limited access to patient data, typically read-only for patients they are directly involved with. They cannot search the entire patient registry. Examples include primary care and third-party specialists not employed by the hospital.
